Death Sentences in 2015

There were 49 New Death Sentences in 2015, which is the lowest number since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. This is a 33% decline from the previous low of 73 new death sentences in 2014. Of the 32 states with the death penalty, only 14 imposed a death sentence in 2015.
