RESOURCES: New Website and Database Launched

The Death Penalty Project launched a new Web site on December 10 that includes a legal resource database with a comprehensive list of international legal authorities and case law, some dating back to the 19th century, and detailed head notes for those seeking jurisprudence on criminal, constitutional, and international points of law.  Users can search for case references by subject matter and a sophisticated case index.

RESOURCES: DePaul University College of Law Offers Death Penalty Resources

The DePaul University College of Law's Center for Justice in Capital Cases offers a broad range of cutting-edge training programs for those interested in death penalty law, including a wealth of free publications and manuals that capital defense attorneys may find useful. Founded in 2000, the Center is a resource for death penalty attorneys across the nation, providing training and professional seminars on topics such as trial and mitigation investigation, jury decision-making and selection, lawyer stress in the capital defense arena, and forensic pathology.

NEW RESOURCES: The Dead Man Walking School Theatre Project

The stage play of Tim Robbins' Academy Award winning film, Dead Man Walking, is available to colleges and universities across the country.  The play is based on the acclaimed book of the same title by Sister Helen Prejean.  Through the Dead Man Walking School Theatre Project, the play provides an opportunity to broaden discussion about the death penalty and involve schools and their local communities in an inter-disciplinary dialogue about this major social issue.  The Theatre Project's new Web site (http://www.dmwplay.org) i

NEW RESOURCE: New Government Web Site Promotes DNA Technology to "Protect the Innocent"

"Advancing Justice Through DNA Technology" offers a new resource from the President's DNA Initiative.  The Web site, www.dna.gov, includes resources on DNA testing, trainings, and funding, and a history of forensic use of DNA. In one section, "Exonerated by Science," the site provides overviews of cases in which DNA has played a significant role in freeing defendants who have been wrongly convicted, including some who were exonerated from death row.
