2013 Death Sentences by Name, Race, and County

There were 79 new death sentences in 2013, equaling the second lowest number since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. Of the the 32 states with the death penalty, only 15 imposed a death sentence in 2013. (We had originally reported 80 new death sentences, but further research revealed that Khalid Pasha’s sentence in Hillsborough Co., Florida, was a resentencing.)
