Three new items have been added to DPIC’s Web site, including a summary of a new report from The Sentencing Project, the complete results of a recent North Carolina poll, and an updated “Special Resources from DPIC” Web page:

1. A summary of important facts from The Sentencing Project’s new report: “The Meaning of ‘Life’: Long Prison Sentences in Context.” For example, the report notes that the use of life-without-parole sentences has expanded significantly—of the lifers in prison, one in four (26.3%) is serving a sentence of life without parole, having increased from one in six (17.8%) in 1992. Read DPIC’s summary of the report.

2. The complete report of a recent public opinion poll (see previous What’s New item) in North Carolina. In particular, the poll found that by a margin of more than two-to-one (63% to 28%), state residents favor a two-year suspension of executions. See the North Carolina poll (pdf).

3. A newly revised page of Special Resources from DPIC to help in your research of the death penalty.
