On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Death Penalty Information Center (DPI) announces the launch of its updated website and new visual identity. The refreshed, more intuitive navigation bar is the first phase of improvements that will make it easier for visitors to access DPI’s data, reports, analysis, and resources. Visitors will also find DPI’s new logo and other changes to update the organization’s visual brand and appearance.

The new DPI logo takes the common symbol for information” – a lowercase letter i – and adjusts it slightly to resemble the hands of a clock showing 12:01 am. This is a subtle nod to the historical practice of setting executions to occur just after midnight, in complete secrecy. The new logo reflects DPI’s subject-matter expertise with its mission of providing accurate, timely, and complete information to the public about capital punishment.

The updated navigation bar allocates DPI’s website into five areas:

  • Policy Issues related to the death penalty, as well as pages highlighting the biases and vulnerabilities that affect certain identity groups.
  • Research contains databases, reports, and contextual information on death penalty history and laws.
  • Death Row & Executions contains pages on death row conditions and groups of people on death row, as well as information on upcoming executions and methods of execution.
  • State and Federal Info contains links to state pages and data on the federal and military death penalty systems.
  • Resources contains DPI’s high school and college curricula, publications & testimony, related websites, and Spanish-language pages.

Some popular pages, including DPI’s Execution Database, can be located through multiple menus. The DPI homepage also highlights direct links to some of our most-visited pages, including the Upcoming Executions calendar and Fact Sheet.

More changes will arrive in early 2025. In the meantime, DPI welcomes feedback and questions on the new website at dpi@deathpenaltyinfo.org.
