The July 1, 2024 report includes the following statistics:

The num­ber of pris­on­ers on death rows or fac­ing cap­i­tal retri­als or resen­tenc­ings across the nation was 2,213, a decrease of 14 from April 1, 2024. It was down by 70 (3.1%) from the 2,283 report­ed on July 1, 2023. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 140 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,073 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences, a decrease of 6 from the quar­ter before. 35.3% of those on U.S. death row (781 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions. There were 1,328 pris­on­ers in 23 states, or 60% of death row, with death sen­tences LDF clas­si­fied as active and enforceable.

The April 1, 2024 report includes the following statistics:

The num­ber of pris­on­ers on death rows or fac­ing cap­i­tal retri­als or resen­tenc­ings across the nation was 2,227 a decrease of 14 from January 1, 2024. It was down by 77 (3.3%) from the 2304 report­ed on April 1, 2023. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 148 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,079 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences. 35.3% of those on U.S. death row (787 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions. There were 1,326 pris­on­ers in 23 states, or 59.5% of death row, with death sen­tences LDF clas­si­fied as active and enforceable.

It was down by 90 (3.9%) from the 2,331 report­ed on January 1, 2023. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 162 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,079 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences, a decrease of 12 from the quar­ter before. 35.4% of those on U.S. death row (794 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions. There were 1,328 pris­on­ers in 23 states, or 59.3% of death row, with death sen­tences LDF clas­si­fied as active and enforceable.

It was down by 101 (4.3%) from the 2,363 report­ed on October 1, 2022. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 171 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,091 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences, a decrease of 18 from the quar­ter before. 35.5% of those on U.S. death row (804 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions. There were 1,333 pris­on­ers in 23 states, or 59% of death row, with death sen­tences LDF clas­si­fied as active and enforceable.

It was down by 105 (4.3%) from the 2,436 report­ed on January 1, 2022. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 217 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,114 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences, a decrease of 61 from the quar­ter before. 34.9% of those on U.S. death row (832 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions. There were 1,367 pris­on­ers in 23 states, or 58% of death row, with death sen­tences LDF clas­si­fied as active and enforceable.

It was down by 92 (3.7%) from the 2,455 report­ed on October 1, 2021. The con­vic­tions or death sen­tences of 188 death-row pris­on­ers had been reversed pend­ing retri­al, resen­tenc­ing, or com­ple­tion of the appeals process. That left 2,175 pris­on­ers fac­ing active death sen­tences, a decrease of 24 from the quar­ter before. 36.2% of those on U.S. death row (855 pris­on­ers) were in states with mora­to­ria on exe­cu­tions.
