A new webinar series, launched on October 29, 2026, will cover various death penalty topics with expert guests. Amicus, a charity based in the United Kingdom, works with law firms and individuals to provide pro bono assistance in US death penalty cases. Since 1992, Amicus has sent over 600 volunteers to work in the US. Currently, the charity places 30 – 40 volunteers each year in 17 different affiliate offices across 11 key states (including Florida, Texas, and Georgia). Amicus also honors its volunteers at an annual gala that will take place on November 20th, this year featuring a mock death penalty trial.

The organization kicked off the new webinar series with a presentation by DPI Executive Director Robin Maher and Director of the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide Chelsea Halstead. Ms. Maher and Ms. Halstead discussed the state of the death penalty in the U.S. and internationally, recent events and trends, including the botched execution of Christa Pike, and problems in the use of the death penalty.

Further webinars are planned, with the next tentatively set for December 9, 2026. If you are interested in attending future sessions or learning more, visit https://www.amicus-alj.org/events.
